‘New leaders have begun to transform the culture of the school’ (Ofsted Nov 2024), so come and join us on our transformative journey. Serving the bustling city of Sheffield, Outwood Academy City was constructed in 2011 with state-of-the-art facilities and joined Outwood Grange Academies Trust three years later. The school has undergone a huge transformation for its 1,200 students, with an innovative curriculum and a personalised approach to learning, enabling our young people to realise their vocational, practical, creative and academic abilities. ‘Pupils learn an ambitious curriculum that the school has carefully sequenced’ (Ofsted Nov 2024) to ensure that we give our young people the best chance to succeed. Our students are a really special group of young people, and they are at the heart of everything we do. Alongside our ambitious curriculum and as a result of ‘high-quality pastoral care, pupils at Outwood Academy City are safe and well-cared for’ (Ofsted Nov 2024). Come and take a look at what we offer and see if you could be a part of our team - #WeAreCity, and we are striving for excellence. Will you join us?
The Maths department is a thriving, friendly department with teachers and 1-to-1 tutors at different stages of their careers, including ECTs.
The vision is for the Maths department to be outstanding, where students are challenged, engaged and successful and teaching is relevant, exciting, innovative and transformational, a beacon of good practice and a leader in raising standards, attainment and innovation.
Our key aims are:
* To develop proficiency in all areas of numeracy, including problem-solving, verbal reasoning, reading and communicating mathematically, and functional and creative skills.
* To provide a varied and stimulating curriculum which responds to the needs of students and develops their knowledge of the world in which we live.
* To encourage creativity and experimentation with mathematical language and confidence in the communication of ideas.
* To develop a culture whereby students are able and willing to tackle mathematical problems in unfamiliar contexts.
