HOURS/DAYS OF WORK: 8am to 3pm Mondays and Wednesdays
MAIN PURPOSE:
To provide a range of activities which promote mental and physical stimulation and a sense of well-being for older people, working with an activities assistant and volunteers to encourage their participation in group activity.
MAIN TASKS:
1. To lead in providing a wide range of activities which will be centre-based, these activities must promote mental and physical well-being and should be suitable for people attending on a Monday with cognitive issues.
2. To provide a suitable daily list of activities in discussion with the Activities Assistant & Head of Service and from consultation with service users.
3. To provide a range of activities each day to allow choice and preference.
4. To liaise with Activities Assistant regarding what activities will be provided.
5. Research activities & costs that can be provided by outside agencies and then discuss with the Head of Service.
6. To ensure all resources are available to provide varied activities.
7. To ensure that the activity cupboards are kept tidy, and activities can be easily identified.
8. To ensure that activity stock is well maintained and varied.
9. To allocate activities to volunteers.
10. To encourage and empower volunteers to facilitate group activity.
11. To work with the Head of Service to allocate tasks to volunteers.
12. To work with the Activity Assistant in discussing with volunteers before each session, what tasks are to be undertaken and provide them with the necessary equipment to undertake the activity.
13. To liaise with the Head of Service regarding any client concerns.
14. To notify the Head of Service immediately of any safeguarding concerns.
15. To ensure that activities are being undertaken in a safe environment.
16. To ensure that clients are moved and assisted correctly, following moving and handling guidelines.
17. To liaise with the Head of Service regarding any identified training issues relating to volunteers.
18. To assist in setting up for the day and clearing away at the end of the day.
19. Setting up activities for each session (morning & afternoon).
20. Assist with the serving of refreshments & meals.
21. Assist in the kitchen if required.
TRAINING:
1. Undertake regular training such as First Aid, Moving and Handling, Safeguarding and training relating to health promotion, providing activities etc.
GENERAL:
1. To undertake all necessary training.
2. To ensure a high standard of service.
3. To attend bi-monthly supervisions with Line Manager, and any other meetings as requested by your Line Manager or Chief Executive.
4. To adhere to all Age UKBPED policies and procedures.
5. To undertake any other reasonable tasks by the Head of Service, Senior Manager or Chief Executive.

Essential:
* Previous experience of working with older people and those with dementia.
* Experience of providing activities for older people.
* Excellent oral and communication skills.
* Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
* Ability to show empathy with older people and to adapt communication to the needs of the client.
* Ability to keep clear and concise written records.
* Flexibility.
* Good time keeping.
* Reliable & honest.
* Ability to keep confidentiality.
* Willingness to undertake training.
* Understanding the needs of older people.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: £9,343.00 per year
Expected hours: 14 per week
