The Role
As a Principal Mechanical within Marine Engineering, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be responsible for the design, build, assembly and maintenance of the next generation of Royal Navy vessels.
Day to day, you’ll author and review mechanical and marine system designs through calculations, simulations, commissioning and diagnostic testing.
1. Lead and manage design teams through the design lifecycle
2. Ensure efficient and effective delivery of key engineering outputs
3. Act as technical authority
4. Develop innovative design solutions with robust engineering substantiation
This role is a full time role, 36 hours per week, and based at our Rosyth site near Dunfermline, Fife, with hybrid working options.
Experience required of the Principal Mechanical Engineer
5. Expert knowledge in Mechanical / Marine Engineering
6. Ability to use finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics
7. Ability to understand and use 2D and 3D CAD Packages
8. Leadership experience preferable
9. Defence background beneficial but not essential
Qualifications for the Principal Mechanical Engineer
10. Degree qualified in relevant subject
11. Member of relevant institution preferred (RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc)
12. The successful candidate must hold or be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
