We are seeking to appoint an outstanding teacher of PE to join our committed, dynamic and successful sports department at GSAL on an interim basis for two years. This is expected to end in August 2027. This role is available on a part-time or full-time basis, at a minimum of 0.8FTE. Please state in your application what FTE you would prefer.
The successful candidate will be an organised, positive and passionate individual with a strong work ethic. They will be highly motivated, able to work collegiately and demonstrate the ability to excel in a truly fabulous educational environment to achieve a common sporting purpose: to provide an inspiring, enjoyable and holistic environment for every pupil to find belonging, and to develop a lifelong love of physical activity at GSAL and beyond. Expertise and/or experience in netball or hockey would be an advantage. The successful candidate should also possess the essential generalist skills needed to inspire students in the formative years of their development in sport and activity.
The PE and games department has a high profile and reputation for excellence with a very strong curricular and co-curricular programme, as well as a good academic record at Advanced level for those students who choose to pursue their studies in external examinations. GSAL has a strong history of wide and varied success in school sport, health and fitness. The opportunity for participation in a plethora of activities is a unique selling point of GSAL, as is the pride and joy of team sport at any level of skill and ability. Saturday and after-school fixtures (including training sessions) are a significant element in the success of our teams, with both ‘A’ and ‘B’ team provision allowing for a large number of pupils and students to be included.
On the competitive sports field, GSAL pupils enjoy wide and varied success, from the pupil numbers representing the school to the annual county, regional and national success.
Facilities for sport are purpose-built and extensive. They include two all-weather hockey pitches and a 3G pitch for rugby and football. All these surfaces are floodlit, as are the netball courts. The school also enjoys a sports dome over one set of three netball courts to provide a national leading indoor facility for school sport and PE. There are grass pitches for seasonal outdoor games, including a high-quality cricket ground and an athletics track. An indoor sports centre features a large multipurpose sports hall, swimming pool, squash courts and fitness studios including dance, spin and weights rooms.
