Venator is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join the White End Maintenance team, Greatham site.
The overall purpose of the role is to act as a first point of contact for mechanical expertise to the White End Operations team; investigating and resolving faults, carrying out RCAs and the production of work packs for mechanical work.
Job responsibilities include:
1. Act as the first mechanical point of contact for plant issues, investigating faults in response to notifications, assessing issues to be rectified immediately or scheduled into planned maintenance.
2. Produce work packs for breakdowns and opportune maintenance work, coordinate spares and execute the work as required.
3. Prepare the plant for maintenance by reviewing upcoming planned mechanical work and tagging job scopes in the field.
4. Act as a witness for critical joints, refit relief valves and pressure tests, as well as instigate leak assessments. Trained to assess and tighten joints / glands online as per defined local procedures.
5. Lead the response to White End mechanical equipment breakdowns, coordinating with the relevant Shift Manager and calling out and managing additional engineering personnel as required to minimise plant downtime.
6. Monitor asset ‘health’, identifying, rectifying and reporting defects before they become breakdowns and impact on site production capability.
7. Coach and provide instruction to Mechanical Technicians on operational topics (knowledge, diagnostics, procedures) before escalating to the Mechanical Technical Engineer as required.
8. Utilise various condition monitoring techniques to interact with the plant to aid fault diagnosis i.e. basic vibration monitoring, thermography, etc. and review the CBM report.
9. Drive improvements in SAP data quality, by ensuring Mechanical Technicians close work orders properly and that work carried out is documented correctly to support future maintenance or breakdown activities.
10. Identify and recommend improvements to enhance plant stability, maximise uptime and quality. Apply problem-solving skills including root cause analysis, to solve operating and maintenance problems.
11. Identify opportunities to improve MTBF & MTTR of plant equipment and implement appropriate actions.
12. Monitor third party mechanical work ensuring activities are carried out safely, efficiently and effectively, and act as a permit task leader as required.
13. Act as section owner and a point of contact to the site PME team during planned maintenance activities and lead multidiscipline teams as and when required.

Candidate requirements:
Job-Related work experience, Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
15. Preferably educated to HNC level or equivalent, as well as completion of time served mechanical apprenticeship.
16. At least 5 years’ experience working in a heavy industry production environment.
17. Practical experience of fault finding, repair & replacement of rotating equipment including fans, pumps and compressors.
18. Experience in task leading and collaborating with third-party vendors
19. Skilled in self-management and effective task prioritization
20. Experienced in specifying work and producing job packs.
21. Familiar with SAP or similar maintenance management system.
22. Practical experience of making flanged joints on high hazard installations.
