Junior Developer, Yorkshire / Remote working.
A fantastic opportunity exists for a Junior Programmer / Developer with a degree or equivalent programming experience to join this rapidly expanding IT team at my Christian Charity client. You have ideally completed a computer science degree or similar and have worked in IT (e.g. DBA, front-end design) with limited programming / scripting experience and are seeking to progress from a trainee systems developer role. You have some limited IT programming background from your degree or work as a trainee, you are a logical thinker, highly technical who thoroughly enjoys their work. As a junior member of the team you will be looking to continuously develop your skill set, to enable you to create high quality, maintainable code that is testable, well commented and in line with latest standards on security, data protection and coding best practice. You will undertake formal training, peer-to-peer training, and appropriate self-directed learning to progress your abilities in the technologies used by the client – PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and other relevant development technologies and their associated toolkits.
The role will work as a junior developer and part of the team to develop and maintain bespoke internal web applications to support the work of the charity’s head office and frontline teams. This involves working in a fast paced development team on systems that support their work, their partnerships with churches / individuals and their other services. Experience developing across a variety of platforms (Windows / Linux / Mac) is helpful as well as an good knowledge of email, browser / web and database technologies. The role can be based at their offices in Yorkshire, or can be remote working (with the need to visit head office 2-3 times a month) or a hybrid between the two. The role also requires candidates to be comfortable working in a development team, as well as working alone.
In addition, the role has a GOR (genuine occupational requirement) under the Equality Act of 2010 (schedule 9) for the post holder to be a committed, practising and active Christian and agree with the charity’s ethos and mission.
