We are currently looking for a Procurement Specialist to join our team in Southampton. This position will report to the procurement manager, supporting the implementation of procurement strategy and policies ensuring procedures are complied with by internal stakeholders. They will be responsible for assisting with the coordination of activities as well as completing requirements to buy goods and services in line with agreed-upon policies and processes. In addition to assisting in the negotiation of favorable terms, volume discounts, and long-term contracts with suppliers.
About The Role
How will you contribute:
* Applying the five rights of purchasing and value for money criteria to any purchase of goods and services for all departments at DPWS.
* Continuous reference to London Gateway colleagues to look for synergies.
* Evaluating the purchases of goods and services based on the total costs of ownership (or whole life costs).
* Liaising with internal stakeholders to review and clarify requirements to ensure that value for money outcomes are achieved through the sourcing of goods or services.
* Creating savings and improving efficiencies through negotiations with suppliers.
* Comparing and evaluating quotations received from potential suppliers and dealing with any queries or concerns about completed documentation.
* Compiling timely and accurate invitations to tender considering the requirements of stakeholders.
* Promoting the use of competitive pricing with suppliers through monitoring prices and obtaining quotations when appropriate.
* Comparing historical prices with newly quoted prices and evaluating the reasons for any significant discrepancies and taking appropriate action to secure competitive pricing.
* Monitoring lead times, deliveries of goods and services and taking actions to remedy delays and improve lead time performance.
* Collating data required for the fulfilment of targets for the procurement and supply function and necessary to improve performance.
* Maintaining procurement files by tracking purchasing activity and measurements.
* Liaising with Accounts Payable Department to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices, as necessary for the business with the supplier.
What will you Bring
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
* Proven track record of procurement experience directly or indirectly with respect to a container terminal operation, oil & gas industry, chemical process industry, or heavy industrial plant machinery.
* Proven experience to execute procurement strategy.
* Knowledge of Maximo/Oracle or similar systems.
* Basic knowledge of accounting, materials and purchasing.
* Experienced in dealing with stakeholders on an operational level.
* Knowledge in the procurement landscape.
* Able to challenge, collaborate, influence and convince stakeholders.
* Ability to negotiate as an agent on the company’s behalf, ensuring the company is represented in the best possible way.
* Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation and communication skills - written and oral to deal with a wide range of customers and stakeholder levels - both internal and external.
