Job Description:
The Lead Civil Engineer role will play a critical part in our clients' Engineering department, ensuring that the technical deliverables on capital delivery schemes are of the highest quality. Knowledge of potable water networks and treatment is preferred, and a background in utilities or a similar infrastructure business is required to lead a civil engineering team. You will ideally have extensive experience to line manage, mentor and supervise the work of others. The team is comprised of both internal and external resources to examine and apply applicable procedures and principles to protect quality and ensure project technical delivery.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage and coordinate multiple projects engaging a multidisciplinary design approach.
2. As the functional lead, demonstrate commercial awareness, have a working knowledge of NEC contracts, and effectively manage risks associated with contracts and health and safety.
3. Work as part of an integrated project team and engineering department to impact outcomes and collaborate with stakeholders, creating teams and assisting them in forming good connections.
4. Manage project workloads and resources, oversee line management and goal setting, and support, guide, and coach your team to ensure the best results are produced.
5. Implement a safety strategy aligned with Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015 (CDM2015) as part of project delivery and enhance procedures and practices.
6. Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects through the project teams.
7. Multidisciplinary design coordination.
8. Promote and implement innovation in design delivery, construction methodology, and asset operation.
9. Ensure technical excellence and best practice in the delivery of project outputs.
10. Approve technical solutions, including standards and variations to standards.
11. Quality assurance following the relevant company Check, Review, and Approve processes and QA management requirements.
12. Manage team workload, ensuring adequacy of team in terms of numbers and skills.
13. Performance manage staff, contractor, and supplier teams engaged on the project to ensure efficiency targets set by the business are met in conjunction with satisfying all other project deliverables.
14. Support, guide, and mentor staff to ensure technical expertise is applied to projects.
15. Undertake Delegated Engineer, Mentor, and/or Supervising Civil Engineer roles for the team, promoting and encouraging Chartership with the ICE or CIWEM as appropriate.
16. Manage and liaise with contractors and sub-contractors working in an integrated design team.
17. Liaise with customers, internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Skills/Experience/Qualifications:
1. Civil engineering degree
2. Ideally chartered
3. Worked across infra and non-infra projects
4. Experienced with all levels of design through to delivery
5. Leadership experience (our client is open to Senior/Principal levels seeking career advancement)
6. Technical delivery experience - design through to construction and maintenance of infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets, including treatment works, booster plants, pipelines, services, and hydraulics.
7. Excellent people management skills
