About the Role: As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment for pupils with varying needs. Your primary responsibility will be to support students in overcoming barriers to learning, enabling them to reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. Key Responsibilities: Classroom Support: Assist the teacher in delivering engaging lessons, ensuring all pupils remain on task and are supported effectively. One-to-One and Small Group Support: Provide tailored support for pupils with specific learning needs, including those with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs), and EAL (English as an Additional Language). Behaviour Management: Help manage classroom behaviour, encouraging positive interactions and fostering a calm and focused learning environment. Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to implement and review IEPs, ensuring all goals are met. Encouragement and Motivation: Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage participation and engagement in school activities. Progress Monitoring: Observe and report on pupil's progress to teachers and other staff, offering suggestions for further interventions where needed. Adaptability: Support a range of subjects and age groups, adapting your approach to suit different learning styles and abilities. What We’re Looking For: We are seeking individuals who are: Experienced: You must have previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar capacity, particularly with secondary-aged students. Knowledgeable: A good understanding of SEN, SEND, and SEMH needs, as well as strategies to support students in these areas, is essential. Reliable: Consistency is key to building trust with students and the school staff. Empathetic and Approachable: You should be able to connect with young people, demonstrating patience and understanding in challenging situations. Team-Oriented: The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff is crucial. Flexible: Adaptability is vital, as the needs of students and schools may vary daily.
