Overview
Under the supervision and/or direction of a Registered Nurse, performs various duties assisting nurses in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established nursing standards. These duties may include assisting nurses, unit secretary/monitor technician, phlebotomy, or EKG.
Responsibilities
* Recognizes the Patient Care Tech role as it relates to the overall function of the Emergency Department, patient care, customer service, and the business of healthcare.
* Problem Solving/Performance Improvement
* Communication and computer order entry
* Equipment operation and maintaining a clean/stocked patient care area
* Accurate and timely functions
* Prioritization of tasks
* Demonstrates initiative and proficiency in EKG
* Obtains EKGs of high quality, free of baseline drift, muscle tremor, A-C interface artifact, and is alert to poor-quality tracings, knowing when to abort unacceptable tracings
* Phlebotomy technique, competence in venipuncture, micro collection, blood cultures, and Blood Bank specimens
* Ensures positive patient identification
* Performs and reports point-of-care monitor glucoses on all patient types
* Conscious of biohazard safety as it relates to the job; use of the pneumatic tube system, manual delivery of specimens to the main lab, disposal of blood collection equipment, and changing gloves between patients during patient rounds.
Qualifications
* One year of experience preferred as a unit administrative, Certified Nursing Assistant, or Phlebotomist.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
* Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

* Skills to provide customer service to patients, team members, and visitors
* Knowledge and experience with electronic health records
Credentials
* BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
Education
* High school graduate or equivalent
Other Information
The commitment for this position is a minimum of 1 shift every 2 weeks, 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks, 1 summer holiday, and 1 winter holiday.
