Youth Officer Status of Post Full time (35 hours per week) Salary £27,300 per annum Contract 2 years with extension subject to funding. Post Role To enhance the social, emotional and developmental skills of children and young people with Down syndrome. Support them to learn and socialise in a structured and safe environment. Responsible toManager PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND TASKS Responsible for the planning, development and delivery of a youth and inclusion programme for young people with Down syndrome aged 8 to 25 years old (Age Groups and 20+ years olds) Create a safe, fun, learning and development environment for children and young people with Down syndrome Provide one to one and group mentoring support to meet the individual needs of programmes participants Establish, build and maintain relationships with external agencies to enhance opportunities for participants eg work placements/experience, inclusion programmes. Complete risk assessments for programme activities to ensure safety and wellbeing of participants, staff and volunteers Liaise with external facilitators/organisations to enhance the delivery of the service under guidance from the Manager Work with other team members to ensure a holistic approach to the development of the young people and that appropriate care is provided at all times Adhere to and implement all FDST policies and procedures to ensure the high standards are maintained Undertake any other duties or tasks that may be reasonably required by the Manager, consistent with the broad objectives of the post. This role will involve working daytime and evenings and is subject to an enhanced Access NI check. Job Title: Youth Officer Objective: Fostering a Culture of Inclusion Criteria Essential Education: Third-level qualification (Degree) in a relevant discipline, or 4 years of experience delivering youth-led programs for children and young people. Significant Experience in: Planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating youth-led projects. Conducting risk assessments Develop programs that meet the needs of young people with learning disabilities Support and motivate young people with learning disabilities to participate actively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience in: Public speaking, giving presentations, and facilitating group discussions. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, and general IT literacy. Knowledge of Safeguarding vulnerable children and adult protection.
