The ideal candidate will specialise in assembling, repairing, and customising engines for a variety of vehicles, ensuring peak performance and reliability. We are seeking a candidate with proven expertise in prototype or race engine assembly, including a solid understanding of the associated processes. Familiarity with creating and managing build logs, component life tracking, and traceability systems is highly desirable. A key responsibility of this role is the design and specification of the build environment, encompassing tools, instrumentation, and processes. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional knowledge of engine mechanics, precision assembly, and diagnostic testing, coupled with a strong focus on quality and safety. Responsibilities Engine Assembly and Rebuilding: Assemble and rebuild engines according to specifications, including high-performance and custom engines Diagnostics and Testing: Perform diagnostics to identify engine issues, run performance tests, and implement necessary repairs or upgrades Precision Measurement: Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision tools to measure engine components and ensure tolerances are met Component Inspection: Inspect engine parts for wear, damage, or defects, and replace or repair components as needed Customisation and Modifications: Install custom components or modifications to enhance engine performance, efficiency, or aesthetics Maintenance and Repairs: Conduct regular maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments to engine systems Documentation: Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and any adjustments made to ensure traceability and customer satisfaction Collaboration: Work closely with team members from different departments, including technicians, to deliver high-quality results Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations and ensure a clean, organised work environment Essential Skills Qualifications: NVQ or an equivalent qualification within a relevant Automotive Technical subject area Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of internal combustion engines, engine systems, and automotive repair techniques Mechanical Skills: Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialised engine-building equipment Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in measurements, assembly, and diagnosing issues Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex engine-related problems Experience: Prior experience in engine building or automotive repair, with a focus on high-performance engines preferred Physical Ability: Capability to lift and handle heavy engine components and stand for extended periods Communication: Effective communication skills to discuss technical details with colleagues and customers Desirable Passion for automotive performance and engineering Familiarity with performance tuning and aftermarket engine modifications Knowledge of emerging automotive technologies and trends Please note we do not provide sponsorships to those who require it and will only accept applications from those who have full rights to work in the UK with no restrictions and IDLR/Full Settlement status.
