The Senior Subcontract Buyer role provides a professional procurement service, striving to achieve value for money and high stakeholder satisfaction. The role delivers outcomes and objectives as agreed with the Procurement Manager whilst also managing subcontract procurement for the programme of works. This position would also suit a Quantity Surveyor looking for a change in direction.
A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Buyer
- Negotiating directly with suppliers to ensure the benefits from the best rates and terms for the supply of goods and services.
- In partnership with the Procurement Manager approve bid proposals and specifications to make recommendations on purchases.
- Progress purchase orders and communicate issues to the wider teams.
- Arrange for delivery of ordered material to expedite flow of materials and meet programme schedules.
- Placement of orders for Direct and Indirect materials, in conjunction with company guidelines.
- Provide support to Project teams and wider disciplines on issues concerning purchasing.
- Manage the tender process for subcontract packages through Aconex
- Meet with operational teams and deliver their buying requirements.
- Ensure savings, rebates and compliance are achieved in line with procurement strategy and associated policies and procedures.
- Executing end to end procurement processes, including data collection, document preparation, negotiation, contract award, contract management and supplier relationship management.
- Manage communication with suppliers and internal stakeholders and maintain auditable records in line with governance and contract.
- Feed into the PPC weekly reporting schedule and maintain / update the Procurement Schedule

- Previous exposure in procurement as a Senior Subcontract Buyer, gained within an engineering or construction environment.
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant subject or demonstrable industry experience.
- CIPS or MCIPS accredited
- Proven ability to expertly use a range of relevant software.
- Utilises negotiation skills where appropriate to influence position outcomes.
- Ability to present and communicate complex data in a clear and concise manner ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Personal resilience and ability to respond positively to pressure and knowledge of or experience of using continuous improvement techniques
