We are looking for a Litigation and Contracts Solicitor to join our Legal Services Team, delivering high-quality legal support to both internal and external stakeholders. This role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse caseload, provide expert legal advice, and undertake advocacy work. There is also an option to express interest in additional Team Leader duties for those who meet the criteria.

Key Responsibilities:
To work within the Legal Services Team to ensure excellence in service to both internal and external customers.
To provide a high quality and comprehensive legal service for the Council managing a wide ranging caseload.
Manage a broad caseload and provide advice and support on all areas primarily related to Contracts, Environmental Health, Licensing, Waste Management and Health and Safety.
The care and conduct of contentious legal business, including the instruction of Counsel where appropriate;
To undertake advocacy for the Council in the preparation care and conduct of:
Legal Advice and Services, including:
Magistrates Court Proceedings;
Civil actions in the County Court and the High Court
Planning and other Inquiries;
Proceedings before any Tribunal;
Arbitration Proceedings.
Advising other service units of the Council and drafting any relevant documents, notices or orders;
Dealing with enquiries from members of the public;
Advising Members on legal matters relevant to the Council.
Officer and/or Public Complaints.
The Person
Experience in practice as a qualified solicitor or barrister.
Experience of dealing with the public.
Knowledge and experience in Environmental Health, Licensing, Waste Management and Health and Safety Law.
Qualified barrister, Solicitor or FILEX (able to obtain or has a current practising certificate)
Working knowledge of the law and practice relating to property, conveyancing, licensing, waste and health and safety.
Sound working knowledge of local government law and practice.
Able to work well under own initiative.
Excellent computer skills, to include Microsoft office packages.
Ability to research and analyse complex information.
