About the Role
Based in London, the GEMS UK team provides trading services for several internal and external clients in the UK. We provide a range of optimisation, hedging, market operations and analytics services for these clients and the 24/7 shift trading team play a vital role in delivering these services.
The shift trading team is seeking motivated individuals with specific proven capability and knowledge of the trading and operational landscape in GB Energy markets (or any other energy market where you have practical experience) gained in any of the following areas:
1. Short term power and/or gas operations;
2. Short term power and/or gas optimisation;
3. System and/or market analysis;
4. Regulatory analysis and development;
5. Power/Gas system management; or,
6. Power station control room operations.
Numerate, commercially-driven and educated to degree level, the successful candidate will exhibit the following skills:
1. Demonstrated numerate capability;
2. Clear written and verbal communication, fluent in English;
3. Ability and confidence to take ownership of issues, managing to resolution;
4. Decisive in the face of incomplete information;
5. Candidates that additionally hold proven coding skills will be considered favourably.
The shift trader will:
1. Optimise assets and positions in short term markets. We currently have a range of assets in our management including Pumped Storage, CCGT, Solar and Wind, Battery Storage and Gas Storage;
2. Identify and drive implementation of value adding strategies in short term;
3. Interface with clients, control rooms and other key internal and external stakeholders regularly;
4. Be flexible, working as part of a 24/7 shift team;
5. Accurately undertake operational tasks and procedures;
6. Pursue continuous improvement of processes and systems;
7. Work in line with regulatory (particularly REMIT, TCLC and IOLC) and general policy requirements.
The shift trading team is a core part of GEMS UK's ambitious growth plans and the successful candidate will certainly gain a significant amount of experience and exposure in managing a wide variety of assets and commercial processes and positions. In particular, the role will provide the successful candidate with the unique opportunity to become involved with the optimisation of the UK's largest pumped hydro facility, First Hydro.
This is a permanent position reporting to the Shift Team Manager.
