Medical and Scientific Liaison (MSL) Manager
The Medical and Scientific Liaison Manager is responsible for inputting and executing the field medical affairs strategy, objectives and activities for the relevant therapy area. Reporting to the relevant Medical Head, this is a manager role that will partner with commercial and R&D to deliver the overarching strategy for the medicine/therapy area in the UK. They will be responsible for leading the aligned MSL team to meet medical objectives and ambitions. They will lead the team to be externally partnering by working closely with external experts and internal stakeholders as they design and deliver a broad range of medical activities that support the therapy area in the UK.

In this role you will
1. Lead, Coach & Manage the MSL field team to deliver the field medical plan utilizing UNICORN metrics as a mechanism to demonstrate MSL impact.
2. Champion & develop MSL capability in delivering External Engagement excellence utilising MSL handbook as a vehicle to support this.
3. Accountability for MSL field medical tactics and medical activities.
4. Accountability for operational excellence in field including MSL expectations and medical objectives.
5. Contribute to strategic medical planning from short to medium-term incorporating omni-channel strategy.
6. Expert in the therapy area and medicine, translating insight and knowledge into action that meets medical need in the UK.
7. Partner as a strategic leader into brand initiatives with commercial colleagues, global medical and R&D where required.
8. Advise on medical and ethical matters to support the MSL team and ensure all GSK standards and processes are upheld.
9. Provide clinical input into NICE Health Technology Appraisal and input into UK market access strategy based on field insights.
10. Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the therapy area, medicine and UK governance requirements (ABPI/MHRA).
11. Plan ahead and manage resource and capacity of field team based on understanding what needs to be done and when in collaboration with the Medical Head.
12. Lead on the performance review process for the field medical team ensuring value and insights are shared alongside operational measures.
13. Lead field MSL team to establish strong partnerships with key external experts, patient groups and professional societies.
14. Regular coaching support for field medical team to support operational excellence.
15. Set clear ambitious expectations for the field team and individuals centered around medical outcomes.
16. Ensure team have oversight of locally managed investigator-led studies and free of charge supply requests.
17. Develop strong medical-clinical partnerships in the aligned therapy area to ensure delivery of priority studies and medical input into clinical development plans and delivery.
18. Execute an agreed external engagement strategy, which includes National Professional Bodies and individual External Experts.
19. Identify and engage with cross functional internal stakeholders, thought leaders in the UK, plus Professional, Academic & Patient groups.
20. Design & drive implementation of medically led meetings including advisory boards & scientific workshops, and medical education.
21. Identify opportunities for GSK involvement in activities that support patients and benefit the NHS.
22. In conjunction with aligned medical functions co-create the UK Congress Plan.
23. Represent GSK UK at major external scientific, congress and public events.
Basic Qualifications & Skills:
1. BSc or life-sciences/related degree.
2. Management experience leading a team, ideally with coaching and mentoring responsibilities of field-based employees.
3. Significant experience working in a field-based medical affairs environment.
4. Diverse and varied experience working under and interpreting ABPI and MHRA regulations, particularly in relation to field based medical activities.
5. Demonstrated track record of being able to successfully and consistently build relationships, engaging specialists and facilitating connections between NHS, other health providers and GSK.
6. Strong communicator with excellent leadership skills, able to turn insight into action.
7. Proactive, self-motivated, self-reliant, strategic thinker, with effective organisational, goal orientated planning and prioritisation skills.
8. Experience of implementing differentiated expert engagement plans utilising an omni-channel approach.
9. A good understanding of the UK healthcare environment, including knowledge of health technology assessments and market access challenges in the UK.
