The Childrens Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM) is seeking a Director of Knowledge Mobilization and Communications to lead the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of knowledge mobilization and communications strategies for the organization.
This role is part of the Senior Leadership Team and works in close collaboration with CHRIMs researchers, Board of Directors and the Childrens Hospital Foundation as well as other key partners across the organization to design, deliver, and report on the impacts of research programs that advance CHRIMs mission in child health research.
The Director of Knowledge Mobilization & Communications will report to the Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Purpose
The aim of this role is to advance CHRIMs mission by increasing research use, research impact, and research connections among people, communities, organizations, and governments through the strategic leadership of all aspects of CHRIMs knowledge mobilization and communications platform.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design and implement an overarching knowledge mobilization and communications strategy for CHRIM, guided by frameworks for engaging researchers, trainees, patients, and decision-makers in research, health care and government.
2. Provide leadership, oversight, coaching, and mentorship to the knowledge mobilization and communications team.
3. Implement suitable engagement frameworks to guide collaboration with various knowledge producers and knowledge consumers on programs and projects that will focus thematic research outcomes advancing child health.
4. Build and manage strategic partnerships with individuals, communities, organizations, and governments that increase the importance of CHRIMs health research and increase CHRIMs visibility as a child and family health advocate.
5. Design and deliver professional development training and services for researchers to advance their knowledge mobilization, public relations, and media relations skills.
6. Provide media relations support to CHRIM executives and content experts.
7. Develop and implement a government relations strategy for advancing CHRIMs mission in key impact areas related to child health advocacy.
8. Implement suitable evaluation tools and techniques for reporting on short-term impacts and long-term outcomes of research related to CHRIMs mission.
9. Lead the development of all corporate communications materials, including CHRIMs Annual Report.
10. Manage creative content production, published content, media engagement, and audience development across communications channels (e.g., mass media, social media, web sites, etc.).
11. Provide project management and communications support for special projects.
12. Collaborate with the Childrens Hospital Foundation of Manitoba to support mutual branding, marketing, and communications activities as needed.
Experience
1. Completion of a graduate degree in a relevant discipline.
2. A minimum ten (10) years relevant work experience.
3. Experience designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating knowledge translation and / or knowledge mobilization strategies.
4. Experience interpreting and adapting research evidence into a range of innovative knowledge products for use with a variety of audiences.
5. Experience with instructional design, development, and delivery.
6. Experience in content development, production, and measurement using a broad range of digital and traditional media platforms.
7. Experience leading people and managing talent.
8. Experience in media and stakeholder relations, including how to pitch to media.
9. Experience with government relations an asset, especially with the provincial government.
Skill requirements
1. Excellent communication and project management skills.
2. Superior writing and editing skills, including the ability to develop compelling content and translate complex scientific information into plain language.
3. Strong computer literacy skills (Microsoft 360, Adobe Creative Suite, video production and social media monitoring applications, etc.).
4. Solid judgement and high integrity.
5. Ability to take initiative and provide leadership and mentorship within a team environment.
6. Ability to work independently with little oversight.
7. Excellent attention to detail.
8. Ability to problem solve and offer solutions for consideration.

2. Strategic communications planning principles and practices.
3. Project management principles and practices.
