Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable.
2. Lead the ward / departmental team and build successful links between key professionals to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.
3. Manage the department nursing staff, ensuring the patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
4. Be wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC Code and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.

Job responsibilities
1. The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the department / ward; including budget control, clinical governance, staff development and training.
2. The post holder will be expected to provide professional leadership within the clinical area and provide direction and inspirational leadership to all members of the multidisciplinary team within the area for which they are accountable.
3. The post holder will be involved in the development of policies, protocols / guidelines and patient information.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* RN1/RN2/RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
* Master's degree or on pathway actively working towards.
* Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development in relevant area of speciality supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD.
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
* Knowledge of evidence based practice.
* An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice.
Experience
* Proven experience on managing a ward; including management of rotas, managing competencies, resources and staff.
* Experience of administering intravenous drug therapy.
* Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting.
Skills
* Able to manage team and individual performance.
* Able to effectively present information to groups and professional teams.
* Able to manage staffing and supply budgets effectively.
* Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients / clients and give relevant advice / information to patients and relatives.
* Ability to administer prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and administration of blood products.
