THE ROLE
We are looking to recruit an experienced Conservator, to manage the interventive and preventive conservation scheme for the Trust’s extensive collections spanning over 400-years of maritime history.
It is an exciting time to join the Collections Team, as we work to deliver a new programme of permanent galleries and exhibitions, as well as improve our collections stores. As a core member of the Collections Team, the Conservator will manage the Trust’s collections stores, as well as prepare objects for display and advise on display conditions.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in the conservation laboratory, as well as collaborate with others across the organisation, including staff and volunteers, and with the historic vessels.
The Trust’s collections are varied and include manuscripts, printed books, photographs, models, textiles, archaeology, ordnance, boats, tools, art, vehicles, and ships. The Conservator will have a good understanding of museum conservation and will need to be able to work with a range of material groups. In addition, the Conservator will have the ability to work well under pressure to meet tight project deadlines.
