To be responsible for overseeing the preceptorship programme, supporting the transition from student to newly qualified midwife.
Acting as a role model, you will provide support for the preceptee midwives as they consolidate their learning and skills. As a member of the education team, you will work with the preceptee midwives to enhance their experience, build confidence and resilience and establish a strong foundation for their future career.
The post holder will support and enhance the practice development midwife and the Professional Midwifery advocated adding and developing the current education and training of all midwives within our service.
Main duties of the job
1. To expand practice development/placement opportunities as necessary across a broad range of disciplines/professional areas in conjunction with the local, regional and national agendas.
2. Work closely with the Lead PPF midwife for placements and Higher Education institutions.
3. To contribute to ensuring the quality of clinical area by identifying areas of good practice and establishing the professional development needs of clinical staff.
4. To provide educational support and guidance to all clinical midwives, nurses and to students, particularly in relation to highlighting potential problems in clinical areas.
5. To support and facilitate the development of clinical practice by providing clinical and midwifery leadership.
6. To act as a resource to managers and clinical staff with regard to practice development and innovation at an operational level.
7. Develop and deliver educational programmes related to developing and improving practice across the organisation, to multi-professional staff groups.
8. To provide management and clinical support on a rotational shift basis.
9. To provide effective leadership and act as a good role model.
10. To supervise and teach multidisciplinary groups of staff, acting as a mentor where appropriate, providing advice and support as necessary.

Person Specification
* Proven communication skills and experience of collaborative working
* Masters level study or equivalent experience
* Teaching qualification or equivalent
* Significant experience as a student nurse/midwife mentor/assessor
