Job overview
The pathology departments at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trusts and South Tees Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are working collaboratively to develop a joint service, requiring cross-site working as appropriate. The post holder will provide effective administration support, excellent communication skills, and good customer care.
The role requires the individual to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide high-quality administrative support and ensure excellent customer care and experience for patients.
Main duties of the job
1. Communicate effectively and courteously with a range of internal/external stakeholders, which may include patients on a daily basis.
2. Work with and effectively communicate with the team structure including line management.
3. Provide a high-quality administrative service and ensure excellent customer care and experience for patients and other stakeholders.
4. Ensure adherence to all Trust Policies and Procedures relating to the role.
5. Work on own initiative and make decisions within remit, referring to the line manager as appropriate.
6. Receive, record, sort, and distribute any form of communication and take appropriate action including escalation where appropriate.
7. Receive and make telephone calls to/from patients, relatives, GPs, wards, and other NHS and non-NHS professionals/agencies, following through all enquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
8. Interrogate case notes to identify relevant information and ensure accuracy of correspondence.

Person specification
Qualifications
1. GCSE in Maths and English or Functional Skills (level 2)
2. NVQ3 level Secretarial or Business Administrative qualification, or equivalent level of demonstrable experience.
Desirable criteria
1. Medical Terminology qualification
2. Audio-typing qualification
Experience
1. Secretarial and administrative experience
2. Working knowledge of Office and Outlook, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, and internet.
Desirable criteria
1. Healthcare / STHFT or other NHS Trust experience
Knowledge
1. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
2. Excellent planning, prioritisation, and organisational skills
Desirable criteria
1. Trust experience; knowledge of STHFT policies and procedures
Disclosure and Barring Checks (DBS)
Successful candidates who are new to the Trust and require DBS clearance for the post will be required to pay the cost via salary deduction from the first month's pay.
