Role Summary
The Legacy & Endowment Officer role is your opportunity to join our excellent team at an exciting time as we enter our 125th anniversary year as a University. You will be passionate about the impact the University’s teaching and research has on the world and have enthusiasm for working in higher education fundraising. This role sits within the Philanthropy Team and reports to the Head of Legacies & Endowments.
Main Duties
The Legacy and Endowment Officer will play a key role in the growing legacy programme by supporting activity and responsibilities across the whole team. You will be responsible for managing current and incoming legacy gifts whilst also overseeing charitable endowments across the University.
* To be responsible for managing legacy gifts to the University, acting as a point of contact with solicitors/legal professionals, executors and other stakeholders.
* Ensure we administer legacy gifts in compliance with all legal and financial obligations; ensure all documentation supporting legacy gifts is up to date and accurately recorded on our CRM database.
* Assist in organising and co-ordinating fundraising and communications activities including events, direct marketing and any other communications.
* Work with the Head of Legacy and Endowments to oversee our endowment responsibilities including reporting, liaising with internal stakeholders and monitoring endowment expenditure across the University.
* To lead on the promotion of the ‘Future Fund’ endowments.
* You will communicate effectively with prospects and donors to build lasting relationships and encourage support for the University.
* Be proficient in using DARO’s CRM system to keep records up to date.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues in DARO to maximise legacy fundraising opportunities.
* Promote equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience
* Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications). Significant practical relevant experience in a similar role will also be considered.
* A passion for working in a fundraising environment with confidence and determination to succeed.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of audiences.
* The ability to represent the University to senior prospects and donors with confidence.
* Evidence of literacy and numeracy including the ability to write creatively.
* Highly proficient IT skills, including the wider MS Office suite of programmes.
* Experience of working with databases and analysis of large data sets.
* A high degree of initiative, personal judgement, resourcefulness, flexibility, and a self-motivating approach.
* Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.
