We are looking for an experienced leader and clinician who will join an established Directorate team, working closely with colleagues to ensure the development of clinically effective services reflecting the Trust governance and professional frameworks. The post holder will collaborate with senior AHP staff within the directorate, carry out strategic planning for the delivery of AHP services taking into account national guidance, including NICE, and nationally agreed best practice, ensuring this is aligned with the overall directorate objectives and deliver high quality care.
The Directorate includes a variety of services: inpatient acute wards for adult and older people, a HBPoS, MH Liaison Teams, Crisis Line, ECT and CRHTs. We work closely with our colleagues in other Directorates in a way that provides effective and smooth care pathways for patients and their carers. We work closely with partners in the South East London Integrated Care System, and with colleagues across South London. Candidates will demonstrate their experience and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders; as well as demonstrating effective written and verbal communication skills.
Applicants will have leadership and management experience, and extensive experience as an AHP. They will join an organised and welcoming directorate team and contribute fully to the delivery of our vision.
• To be responsible for Directorate AHP professional leadership, strategic planning and delivery.
• To support the development of a clinically effective AHP workforce reflecting the professional and Trust governance frameworks in collaboration with Professional leads and the Trust Lead AHP.
• To be a key member of the Directorate Management Team and contribute/lead on strategic developments and service improvement initiatives.
• To ensure supervision for AHPs across own directorate in collaboration with Professional leads and the Trust Lead AHP.
• To manage a complex clinical caseload.
• To be an AHP specialist in own area and have expert knowledge of assessment & interventions for a specific group.
• To be responsible for governance surrounding AHP professional issues within the directorate in collaboration Professional leads and the Trust Lead AHP
• Contribute to and oversee risk assessment and risk management plans for AHPs within own team and across the directorate.
• To advise the Lead AHP and Heads of Professional accordingly regarding issues relating to AHP governance.
• To work collaboratively with other AHP leads both clinically and strategically to support directorate and trust developments.
• To provide expert advice to Directors and other senior staff on the appropriate use of AHP staff.

Management responsibilities
• To provide assurance of effective clinical governance across the AHP professions within the directorate and contribute to the quality agenda.

• To be jointly responsible for the recruitment, retention and professional management of AHP staff across the Directorate with the Team Lead and Lead AHP.

Clinical
• To be professionally accountable for the planning and delivery of AHP services across own clinical area, prioritising clinical needs to provide an effective service.
• To manage a caseload of service users with complex health needs.
• To work with service users, order to provide the most effective assessment & interventions.
• To demonstrate understanding and application of national guidelines and legislation relating to healthcare provision and clinical governance.
• Take responsibility alongside other senior AHP leads to assuring clinical governance in all aspects of AHP directorate teams.
• To use Judgement involving highly complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options.
• To liaise and work closely with relatives and carers providing assessment of needs where appropriate.
• To apply expert understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on life skills to maximise functional ability.
• To manage effective discharge ensuring service user and all relevant agencies are given relevant information.
• To work as part of the relevant MDT and attend all relevant clinical meetings.
• To support the induction, training and education of students across the directorate Professional leads and the Trust Lead AHP in collaboration with professional leads and the Lead AHP.
• To ensure that up to date electronic and written records are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
• To analyse, synthesize and present knowledge and information about complex subjects and concepts to influence key decisions.
• To expertly manage own complex caseload of service users.
Research
• To demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate current information and apply it to practice and disseminate findings at local level.
• To support directorate AHP involvement in research and audit projects.
• To broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects.
• To participate in the strategic and operational planning, implementation, evaluation and audit of practice, clinical care pathways and protocols within clinical area.
• To contribute to CPD through participation in internal and external training and other development opportunities.
• To maintain and update a CPD portfolio.
Communication
• To establish robust and effective communication skills with service users and carers, team members, AHP Lead, AHP Heads of Profession, team and service managers and external agencies.
• To work with the DMT and wider trust as well as external agencies to ensure the provision of a seamless service and to promote partnership arrangements.
• To use highly analytical skills to interpret complex facts and information in order to communicate in a highly efficient and collaborative manner.
• To liaise regularly with service managers, team leaders, directors, HoPs and other leads on professional and service issues.
• To demonstrate effective communication skills with individuals and groups at any level in any type of situation.
• To promote an awareness of the AHP roles within the negotiating priorities where appropriate.
• To be able to communicate effectively in complex and potentially challenging situations.
