Job Advert Role Description
Mill Garth Hospital is located in Meanwood, Leeds, West Yorkshire. We are situated close to local amenities, regular public transport links and offer free parking.
We are a 19 bed standalone rehabilitation and recovery high dependency service for adults. We deliver our services across two wards, one of which delivers bespoke therapeutic programmes (BTP) within two self-contained single occupancy apartments; the other is a 17 bed ward that deals with males.
We provide services to people often detained under the Mental Health Act, who have experience of living with complex mental health needs, personality disorder, learning disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder and gender identity issues.
Our primary objective is to aid recovery, build resilience, increase daily living skills and open up as many opportunities for people who are committed to progressing positively on their person centred pathways. Our service offering is designed to facilitate the patient’s successful discharge into the community.
Our overarching aim is to enable people to become responsible citizens so they can live and enjoy their life as independently as possible, in the wider community.
The role:
We are looking for a charismatic, enthusiastic, skilled, motivated, proactive and capable Director of Clinical Services (DoCS) to join our highly committed, dynamic and enthusiastic team. You will be joining us during a period of significant positive change.
Reporting into the Hospital Director, you will form part of the hospital senior leadership team. You will be wholly responsible for the clinical services operation (nursing and therapy) across the hospital; you will also be responsible and accountable for ensuring the highest level of patient care is provided at all times.
As our DoCS you will play a crucial role in developing and delivering the hospital strategy, providing operational, as well as clinical, leadership and you will ensure the highest level of clinical and therapeutic outcomes is achieved. You will also be central to forging positive professional relationships with other health and social care professionals external to the service, and for full ensuring full compliance with legislation, statutory regulations, organisational and local policies, procedures and professional standards.
Quality and meaningful engagement plays an important part within our hospital also culture. You will be responsible and accountable for ensuring clinical teams comply with and aim to exceed quality standards and achieve our performance indicators through the application of a positive ‘can do’ attitude. You will help to create and forge a culture where meaningful engagement with patients and colleagues, becomes second nature to us all, and in particular within the nursing team.
Qualifications and experience:
To be successful in your application, it is essential you have the following:
1. A registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) or Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
2. Experience of working at a supervisory or managerial level within a mental health environment
3. A minimum 2 years working as a Ward Manager or equivalent.
4. Experience of managing a clinical budget.
5. A detailed understanding of statutory regulations
6. Passionate about providing high quality care and continuous improvements
7. Demonstrated leadership and decision making skills is essential.
8. Forward thinking, proactive and creative
9. The ability to deal with multiple issues simultaneously in a highly dynamic environment.
10. Demonstrated high levels of integrity and boundaries
11. Strong background within people management.
12. Strong background in working with external professionals
13. Experience of leading, implementing and reviewing quality initiatives in a related environment
14. Strong track record of innovation and creating a positive, proactive and engaging culture.
It would be desirable if you also had the following:
A recognised post-registration qualification, together with full membership/accreditation of a relevant professional institution and evidence of continuous professional development.
