This 7-month post will offer excellent clinical experience and training in the management of all rheumatological conditions. It provides an opportunity to gain experience in general rheumatology and also the subspecialties including the autoimmune connective tissue diseases and vasculitis’s, inflammatory arthritis and the spondyloarthropathies. Through daily work on the dedicated rheumatology day case unit, the post holder will become very experienced in the use of biologic treatments used to treat these conditions and in the management of patients with complex rheumatological multi-system autoimmune conditions.
This post will primarily provide daily medical input into the review of patients attending the dedicated rheumatology day case unit thus ensuring that it is safe for patients to receive their treatment and to assess their response to these therapies. The post holder will also have responsibilities for rheumatology inpatients

The post will involve providing medical review of patients attending the rheumatology DCU, working with our senior nursing team and speciality pharmacists. You will gain experience in managing infection in the context of immunosuppression and distinguishing this from disease flare. You will contribute to the management of small numbers of rheumatology in patients. You will be supported by our rheumatology registrar team and on-call consultant of the week. You will also contribute to the day time and OOH middle grade speciality only on-call rota with appropriate oversight and support from the on-call consultant.
This job is ideal for someone who wishes to pursue a career in rheumatology and wishes to gain more experience in the speciality. Previous post holders frequently gone on to secure NTN in Rheumatology.
