As part of our continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced LGV Class 1 Driver to join our team based at our Herts Depot.
Job Overview
The LGV Driver is responsible for the safe operation of heavy goods vehicles (LGVs) and plant equipment within the scope of their competence and relevant qualifications. The role involves transporting goods and equipment to designated sites, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety regulations, and maintaining high standards of vehicle care and customer service. The LGV Driver will be expected to work in accordance with industry best practices, the company’s safety protocols, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vehicle Operation & Safety:
1. Safely operate all assigned road vehicles and plant in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, industry standards, and company policies.
2. Ensure vehicles are well-maintained and report any defects promptly to prevent unsafe operation.
3. Use all protective equipment and safety devices as required, ensuring the safety of both personnel and the public.
2. Compliance & Documentation:
1. Adhere to all relevant safety standards, legal requirements, and company policies, including compliance with the Working Time Directive, tachograph regulations, and other transport legislation.
2. Maintain accurate driving records, including digital tachograph data, daily vehicle checks, and hours of operation.
3. Customer Service & Communication:
1. Maintain effective communication with clients, site staff, and colleagues regarding delivery schedules, collections, and any potential delays.
2. Ensure minimal disruption to site operations when accessing delivery points, liaising with site personnel to facilitate smooth entry and exit.
4. Health, Safety & Environment:
1. Participate in regular safety training and meetings to ensure up-to-date knowledge of company policies and best practices.
2. Report all accidents, incidents, near misses, unsafe acts, or conditions in accordance with the company’s health and safety procedures.
3. Assist in promoting a safety-first culture and contribute to continuous improvement efforts in safety, quality, and environmental performance.
5. Maintenance & Vehicle Care:
1. Take responsibility for the daily upkeep and cleanliness of the vehicle, ensuring it is fit for purpose before every shift.
2. Immediately report any faults or maintenance issues to the depot, ensuring vehicles are not used if unsafe or defective.
3. Manage and care for all personal protective equipment (PPE) issued by the company, reporting any damage or loss promptly.
6. Training & Development:
1. Attend all mandatory training sessions and safety briefings as required by the company.
2. Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development and maintain a high level of competence in all areas of the role.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
1. Experience:
1. Practical experience in the operation of LGVs, plant hire, or plant maintenance is highly desirable.
2. Previous experience in a similar driving or logistics role is advantageous.
2. Skills:
1. Strong understanding of vehicle operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and clients.
3. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
3. Qualifications:
1. Valid CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) Driver Training card.
2. Valid Digital Tachograph Card for LGV driving.
3. CSCS Health and Safety Site Visitor card.
4. Full, clean driving license (category C+E).
4. Desirable:
1. Knowledge of plant hire and/or plant maintenance practices.
2. Familiarity with current transport regulations and safety legislation.
Working Hours & Benefits
1. Hours: 50 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
2. Overtime and occasional Saturday work will be required based on operational needs.
