SEN/Mental Health Teaching Assistant
A fantastic mainstream school in Bristol - Lawrence Weston area - is currently seeking a Teaching Assistant with SEN/Mental Health experience to join their team long-term, starting immediately. They offer schooling for children between 11 and 16 years and have pupils with complex educational needs, communication difficulties, and behaviour challenges. The school specializes in not only providing integrated education but also therapeutic support for every child with a significant focus on wellbeing.
As a SEN/Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will help provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils, monitor their academic achievements, and support their emotional well-being. You will help increase their interpersonal and social skills, ensuring they succeed when they leave school. You will also encourage pupils to make positive decisions and help them cope with any challenges they face.
The school works in partnership with external professionals including educational and occupational psychologists, counsellors, and speech and language therapists. You will have the opportunity to work alongside them and shadow their work, providing you with the experience needed to train as a Therapist or Psychologist in the future. You will also gain experience and further your knowledge of neurodiversity, mental health difficulties, and the challenges young people face.
Salary: £83-£95 per day, dependent on experience
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Bristol - BS11
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm
Graduate Opportunity: Psychology, Criminology
About the Role:
1. Assist students with their learning activities
2. Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs)
3. Collaborate with educators to adapt resources and strategies
4. Foster a positive and encouraging environment within the classroom
About You:
1. DBS Check required (We can assist with this)
2. Graduate in a relevant field such as psychology or criminology OR a good education background (GCSEs in Maths and English) plus prior experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant
