Job summary The interview date for this role is 27th March 2025 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Dietetic Assistant for the oncology dietetic service 12 months fixed term/secondment. The role will be based at Barnsley Hospital. The post holder will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses and Doctors, to provide holistic care to patients across the cancer pathway. The post will cover mainly GI cancers and lung cancers and some work with patients who have a diagnosis of head & neck, working with speech therapy. The successful candidate will have previous experience working in a clinical setting, with excellent communication skills and a real desire to support patients as they go through their treatment journey. They will be responsible for planning and prioritising their own day; within the allocated workload and resources. Main duties of the job To support the dietetic oncology lead in providing therapy interventions and implement programmes of care for lung, GI and Head & Neck cancer To take action relative to a patients health and care needs when needing dietetic intervention before, during and after their cancer treatment for nutrition support, gastrostomy tube management and communication. To work across the cancer pathway to provide rehabilitation therapy focused support for patients about to undergo cancer treatment To support self-management including patient education and support to manage the consequences of treatment of diet and fluid intake. To deliver high standards of coordinated, personalised care, supporting the oncology lead, whilst working as an integral member of the Head and Neck cancer team To work within the specialist services of Lung, GI (upper and lower GI and Head and Neck Cancer MDTs including Clinical Nurse Specialists, support workers, surgeons, oncologists About us Please note that the Trust reserves the right to close a position early.
