Job Title - Policy and Public Affairs Manager Location - Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth Responsible to - Chief Executive Salary - upto £50,000 Hours - Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm (Hybrid working from home a couple of days per week) This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced public affairs and policy strategist to join a growing business based in Warwickshire. Our client is looking for a candidate with extensive experience in public affairs and policy at a national level and good understanding of the workings of Parliament/Government. With a strong background in current affairs and well versed in issues surrounding horticulture and landscaping. Job Function: To develop and manage public affairs and policy strategy, communications and initiatives. To ensure that the public affairs needs of internal and external stakeholders are met, including those within the organisation and members and key stakeholder organisations. To keep the National Chair, Chief Executive, Board and senior managers abreast of developments in Government and Parliament as appropriate to support them in their roles. Deliver a strong public affairs program, bringing policy priorities and influencing objectives to life through targeted engagement with key stakeholders. Develop relationship with key stakeholders, including parliamentarians, civil servants, landscape and horticulture professions. KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead and contribute to developing clear, evidence-based policy and advice Provide support to the management team regarding the execution of policy programmes. This will also include preparing briefings, papers and presentations Liaise closely with government to help raise the profile of the organisation, to ensure we can implement their commitments on a global scale Lead and manage policy projects and reviews, taking them from project initiation and planning, through to making policy recommendations Ensure that existing policies and regulatory tools - such as Codes of Practice - are up to date and effective by working with stakeholders to bring about necessary changes Work closely with colleagues across the organisation to review and assess the impacts of emerging issues on the company policy and provide guidance and information as necessary Write and present papers on the company policy matters to Board members and the senior management team, as necessary Work with policy colleagues beyond the organisation to influence key policy areas that are consistent with the company's priorities and objectives Working closely with the media team where support is required for press releases, to analyse data and stories etc. Coordinate and respond to high-level requests for information and briefings, at times within short timescales Engage with other regulators and the wider sector to strengthen external partnership working Set and monitor budgets for public affairs, and contribute to the business planning process Ensuring the public affairs sections of the company website remains up-to-date Speak and present at external policy committees and industry meetings Represent the organisation at conferences, seminars and external working groups, as required To adhere to current Health & Safety legislation and best practice in accordance with the Association’s Health and Safety Policy Statement Responsibility for ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of their staff and volunteers; and that the activities for which they are responsible do not expose anyone to risks to their health or safety. Specific areas of responsibility include: ensuring staff and volunteers are adequately supervised, trained and provided with adequate instruction and information to carry out their work safely; ensuring that Company procedures are followed and risk assessments are carried out; and procedures are in place to deal with emergencies To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required of you in the post Personal specification Essential criteria Extensive experience in public affairs and policy at a national level and good understanding of the workings of Parliament/Government Strong background in current affairs and well versed in issues surrounding horticulture and landscaping Experience in the production of draft reports and responses, including to Government and senior persons in non-departmental public bodies Experience of drafting and developing evidence-based policy Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders and establish good working relationships Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information in a lay-friendly way Experience of being able to effectively prioritise and organise work, including while under pressure Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills Desirable criteria Knowledge or experience of Land based Industry regulated sectors Understanding of Parliamentary procedures, specifically in relation to parliamentary questions and legislation Experience in writing documents for Ministerial and senior management level Experience in project management Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
