Sunbury Downs College is a vibrant Year 7 to 12 co-educational secondary college situated in the semi-rural of Sunbury, with student enrolment numbers around 650.
The College offers a rich educational experience with excellent outcomes, high expectations, and strong student management, emphasizing core subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and Physical Education, complemented by programs in the Arts/Technology, Performing Arts, Health, and Languages (Italian). The school also provides a range of VCE subjects, including some VETiS studies and a structured, rigorous VCE Vocational Major program in Years 11-12.
Sunbury Downs College offers an Accelerated Curriculum and Enrichment (ACE) program, extending students through a challenging curriculum, including early commencement of VCE. Selection Criteria
1. SC1: Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills and experience in responding to student learning needs.
2. SC2: Demonstrated experience in planning for and implementing high impact teaching strategies, guided by how students learn, and evaluating the impact of learning and teaching programs on student growth.
3. SC3: Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice, and providing feedback on student learning growth to students and parents.
4. SC4: Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.
5. SC5: Demonstrated behaviors and attitudes consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice and engaging in professional learning to improve teaching quality.
Role
The classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges - range 1 and range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes, engaging in critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills.
As classroom teachers gain experience, their contributions to the school program beyond the classroom increase. All classroom teachers may undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching, provided the responsibility is appropriate to their salary range, qualifications, training, and experience.
Classroom Teacher Range 2
Range 2 classroom teachers assist in improving student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state-wide priorities, contributing to the development and implementation of school policies.
They are expected to:
* Have the content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet diverse student needs.
* Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor/coach other teachers.
* Provide expert advice about content, processes, and strategies for professional learning.
* Supervise and train one or more student teachers.
* Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching approaches.
Classroom Teacher Range 1
The primary focus is on developing skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners with structured support and guidance. They teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for effective program delivery.
Range 1 teachers participate in policy development, project teams, and co-curricular activities, focusing on classroom management, subject content, and teaching practice.
Responsibilities may include:
* Direct teaching of groups and individual students.
* Contributing to curriculum development and evaluation.
* Undertaking other classroom teaching-related duties as determined by the School Principal.
* Participating in parent/teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions.
* Undertaking non-teaching supervisory duties.
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum areas.
