About the Opportunity
Join our dynamic and expanding business as a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor, where you will play a critical role in providing expert guidance on environmental and sustainability issues to various project and framework teams across Scotland.
Business Unit Overview
You will become part of a skilled team of SHEQ professionals within our dedicated Environment & Sustainability team, supporting business units and projects across the UK. Our specialists are regionally based, allowing for targeted local support to our diverse projects.
Role Responsibilities
As a Senior Environment & Sustainability Advisor, your main duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Developing and executing sustainability and climate resilience strategies that meet quality and timeline requirements.
* Providing technical sustainability support to operational and support staff.
* Preparing and submitting environmental permits as required.
* Maintaining a detailed knowledge of relevant sustainability legislation, standards, and best practices.
* Implementing and monitoring the Project Sustainability Plan and creating a Sustainability Register.
* Identifying and facilitating sustainability initiatives, as well as monitoring sustainability KPIs.
* Supporting BREEAM (or equivalent) assessments in collaboration with BREEAM Assessors.
* Conducting sustainability-related assurance activities and managing sustainability opportunities and risks.
* Ensuring project design and optioneering integrate sustainability requirements.
* Conducting site visits, producing environmental reports, and advising teams on best practices.
* Overseeing environmental incident investigations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve sustainability outcomes.
* Compiling waste management statistics and recording energy use to monitor carbon emissions.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
* Prior experience in Environmental and Sustainability roles, preferably in rail or civil engineering.
* Relevant qualification (degree/diploma/HNC/HND).
* Experience in construction project environments.
* Prior ecological experience.
* Membership in IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) or equivalent.
* Full UK driving license.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Broader sustainability experience (e.g., Carbon Reduction, Circular Economy, Climate Change).
* Experience working within rail settings.
