Our mission at NUH is to develop an open and transparent FTSU culture across the organisation, where people are actively encouraged to speak up and feel safe to do so. Where we listen to one another and action is taken to follow up and learn from the concerns raised.
We will achieve this by:
Ensuring colleagues are aware of FTSU and know how to raise concerns.
Removing barriers for people to speak up.
Improving learning from concerns raised.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated, driven and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for supporting staff to speak up. The Guardian role helps to protect patient safety and quality of care, improves the working lives of our colleagues, and promotes learning and improvement.
Our FTSU Guardians work collaboratively with leaders and managers throughout the organisation, whilst maintaining impartiality, to be one of the channels for staff to speak up at NUH, using the route that is right for them.
They will demonstrate compassionate leadership and improve the experience of colleagues to speak up by providing support; identifying and addressing any barriers to speaking up, and promoting a positive speaking up culture.
Whilst we have a full-time position, we are willing to consider applications for flexible and/or part-time working as well as applications from other staff groups., To ensure that staff across the Trust have the capability, knowledge and skills they need to speak up themselves and to support others to speak up through appropriate training, resources and easy access to the Freedom to Speak Up Guardians and Freedom to Speak Up Champions.
To promote a culture where staff are encouraged to speak up by raising the profile of Speaking up at induction and through regular communication about Speaking up matters across the Trust, including challenging poor practice where this is observed.
To provide effective and compassionate support and guidance to all staff, ensuring action is taken when an issue is brought to their attention. Ensure confidentiality is respected as appropriate, that there is a fair and effective investigation and that regular feedback on progress is provided.
To ensure action is taken to ensure that groups that may face particular barriers to speaking up have the support they need.
To ensure that senior leaders, including the Trust Board, receive regular reports that include information on the number and types of cases they deal with, barriers to speaking up, and details of opportunities for learning and improvement.
To plan events and facilitate collaborative working with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure the Freedom to Speak Up agenda is fully understood by staff, implementing new ways of working to support this agenda.
