The NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is a well-established facility covering two sites: the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and the NIHR UCLH Clinical Research Facility on the Bloomsbury campus.
We are looking to recruit a self-motivated and enthusiastic Medical Technical Officer to work in the CRF laboratory, specifically responsible for processing, storing, and shipping samples collected as part of clinical trials implemented at UCLH NIHR CRF. The post holder should demonstrate good interpersonal skills and be an excellent team worker.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will be expected to provide a professional clinical trial laboratory service and deliver high-quality clinical data in line with the study protocol, the principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and the UK Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations. Responsibilities include:
1. Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of research samples.
2. Contributing to service delivery and the maintenance of turnaround times within the department.
3. Communicating effectively and maintaining good working relationships between clinicians and other departments.
4. Leading on appropriate administrative tasks within the laboratory.
The post holder will work across CRF sites based on laboratory support needs, and shift work may be required from time to time.

Knowledge and Qualifications
* 5 GSCE passes at A-C grade including Maths and English
* Foundation degree (in a science subject)
* Good knowledge of a range of laboratory procedures.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety.
* Knowledge of Equal Opportunities & Data Protection / Confidentiality
* Familiarity with medical terms.
* Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice, Good Laboratory Practice, and Research Governance
Experience
* Experience of working in a laboratory setting
* Data inputting in lab computer systems
* Experience of working on COVID-19 Vaccine trials
Skills and Abilities
* Methodical, organised, and self-motivated
Communication
* Ability to communicate effectively in a polite manner both verbally and in writing
Personal and People Development
* Able to identify own training needs and displays a desire for professional and personal development
Specific Requirements
* Good hand-eye coordination for fine use of instrumentation.
* Capable of working with hazardous high-risk samples and daily exposure to infectious material/hazardous chemicals

Salary: £31,944 to £34,937 a year, per annum inclusive of HCAS.
