About the Role
Location: United Kingdom, Manchester
Remote vs. Office: Hybrid (Remote/Office)
Company: Siemens Energy Limited
Organization: Grid Technologies
Business Unit: Grid Solutions
Full-time
Experience Level:
A Snapshot of Your Day:
As a System Engineer for Real-Time Simulation of HVDC Systems, you will work within a team of HVDC project management and engineering specialists to design and deliver full HVDC control and protection solutions for both wind farm grid connections and interconnectors using a new transient network analysis laboratory located in Manchester. You will report to the Engineering Manager – HVDC C&P and will be required to provide engineering work packages in line with project and business objectives.
How You'll Make an Impact:
* Dynamic performance studies within tender and project execution of HVDC projects
* Optimizing the dynamic behaviour of the HVDC converter (e.g., black-start and network restoration, grid forming controls, multi-terminal systems) according to customer and national grid code requirements
* Analysing sub-synchronous torsional/control interactions and the harmonic converter impedance, as well as potential interactions between the HVDC converter and other controlled devices in the power system
* Developing and validating simulation models for diverse EMT simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD/EMTDC, Matlab/Simulink, EMTP-RV)
* Customer trainings for simulation models and presentation of study results to customers
* Continuous improvement and standardization of simulation models, study procedures and methods, processes in project execution as well as documentation of results
* Supporting project management in technical discussions, participating in customer meetings, and coordinating external partners
What You Bring:
* University degree in electrical engineering with a focus on power engineering
* Initial experience in power converter technology (HVDC and FACTS), high-voltage technology, digital simulation technology, as well as control and automation technology
* Basic knowledge of real-time simulation systems, preferably with RTDS or comparable (such as Hypersim, e-megasim), and simulation tools, preferably with EMTDC, EMTP-RV, or Matlab/Simulink and RSCAD
* Willingness to travel on business and abroad to deliver the system to the customer
* Initiative and motivation to learn, outstanding team and collaboration skills, enthusiasm for the field of Energy Transmission
