Hertford College (“the one with the bridge”) is a constituent college of The University of Oxford, and a registered charity. The college occupies a central site in Oxford, opposite the Bodleian Library. Hertford is a friendly yet ambitious college dedicated to the principles of access and equality of opportunity. Reporting to the Domestic Bursar, the Sustainability Manager will lead on processes, programmes and projects to inform, develop and deliver the College’s sustainability goals. A primary focus will be transforming how we manage the College estate to reduce unwanted emissions. As the College energy manager, the Sustainability Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of utilities (Electricity, Gas and Water), developing measures to achieve greater efficiency in consumption, reducing cost and environmental impact. The Sustainability Manager will work across all College departments, engaging with fellows, staff and students, to develop and deliver relevant initiatives. A high proportion of their work will be focussed alongside the Clerk of Works, Accommodation Office, Housekeeping and Catering Departments. The post is ideal for someone who is proactive, practical and able to work autonomously in a fast-paced, professional environment. A strong interest in, and affinity with, sustainability goals and objectives. You will have a proven track record and experience of working in a leadership role to deliver sustainability goals, particularly within estate management and building plant. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential: the post holder will need to build close and effective working relationships throughout the college and beyond.
