Science is a popular subject at Wren with large numbers of students taking Triple Science and A level classes in all three science subjects. We regularly offer super and extra-curricular opportunities, including a Medical Society, a Young Engineers Club, an Ecology enrichment, and annual trips to Science Live and CERN in Geneva. Students enter and perform well in the national Olympiads. Results across the department are consistently strong with positive value-added outcomes at GCSE and A level with a large number of students going on to study Science related degrees at prestigious universities. Destinations include Biology at Oxford, Physics at Manchester and Exeter, Mechanical Engineering at UCL, Dentistry at Manchester and Kings, and regular Medicine places at Universities such as UCL.We also promote Apprenticeships and have had a Physics student gain an apprenticeship with Jaguar, and student go to study Civil Engineering at Oxford University.Science is very much at the heart of our Sixth Form.
The department is a highly experienced team with specialists in all three subject disciplines. The team is cohesive and stable and led by a Head of Faculty, and Heads of Department for each of the separate Sciences as well as a Key Stage 3 Co-ordinator.
Wren Academy Finchley opened in September 2008 as a new school sponsored by the London Diocese of the Church of England and Berkhamsted School. It takes its name from Sir Christopher Wren, the famous polymath, with the intent to inspire students to be curious and explore a wide range of academic disciplines. We have come a long way since 2008 and are now an all through school with over 1500 students aged between 4 and 18. The Academy has continued to grow as we opened our Sixth form in 2013 and have taken on new primary cohorts since 2015. Wren Academy Finchley is proud of its successes having secured exceptional academic progress for our students at KS2, GCSE and A Level. We have also established a national reputation for excellence in teaching and learning, developing an approach that focuses consistently on enabling young people to be effective learners, regularly hosting visitors from the Republic of Ireland and Netherlands.
