We are hiring for the Principal Planning Officer role at Arun District Council. The post requires the production of high-quality reports and recommendations in line with planning policy and all relevant material considerations for both delegated and non-delegated applications, as well as the presentation of items at Committee as requested.
You will be responsible for processing and determining larger scale development proposals in the District, managing consultees, considering consultation comments, and engaging in comprehensive case management discussions with managers to produce timely work.
The role will require you to deputise for the Strategic Development Team Leader when necessary and sign off delegated decisions on planning applications (excluding ‘major’ applications) and work related to appeals. This includes presenting applications to the Planning Committee.
An important aspect of this position is to use your experience to assist less experienced staff in their learning and development.
We are ideally looking for candidates with experience in Local Government who can make sound and robust decisions on planning applications. The role involves extensive public contact and may require attendance at public meetings and/or appeal proceedings, with occasional out-of-office hours work.
