Job summary This is a Trust middle (registrar) grade post in General Surgery initially until October 2025, with the potential to extend the post. The appointee will participate in a roughly 1:8 on call weekday night rota, with 1:8 weekends (split Fri/Sun and Sat). The on call is led by a Consultant of the week, and the middle grade doctor is also on call Monday-Thursday, attending Friday post take ward round 1:7. The on call is supported by an SHO grade and FY1 which the middle grade supervises. There is a large volume of colorectal, benign UGI and general surgery, particularly laparoscopic work. We anticipate the arrival of the robot within the coming year, although exposure to this will be limited. The appointee will be expected to run a clinic, supported by a consultant, as well as 'hot clinics' which are review clinics for ambulatory emergency patients. Trust middle grades as treated the same as trainees with the same learning opportunities. We have previously successfully supported doctors on a Portfolio (CESR) pathway. There is potential for endoscopic training but this is limited depending on number of doctors undertaking this. Main duties of the job The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior.Maintain high standard of clinical work. Ensure complance with clinical governance. There are local policies for grievance / disciplinary procedures, travel expenses and subsistenccking and administration.
