This new post created is a unique opportunity for an Assistant Clinical Psychologist to work within National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, based in Bottisham, Cambridgeshire. The post holder will be working with Deaf Children with emotional/behavioural problems, their parents, schools, and other agencies in the community. This role would suit a deaf, hearing, BSL using and non-BSL using clinician. Although fixed term to begin with, it is hoped this would be made into a substantive post.
The successful candidate will be able to work using the hybrid/agile working approach. This means the post holder can decide to a large extent how and where they work using virtual technology as well as face to face appointments.
The successful candidate would be expected to work autonomously and collaboratively with both deaf and hearing colleagues, supporting a therapeutic service to deaf children and young people, and their families/carers, across the South-East of England region, from a range of community settings, or using virtual meeting technology. This role will appeal to anyone who is deaf or hearing and has experience working with deaf children. For those wishing to gain experience and are unfamiliar working within this specialist area will have the opportunity to learn about deaf culture.
The successful candidate would be expected to work in a variety of sites, including mainstream and specialist schools or across other community sites, or use virtual meeting technology. The work would be virtual and Face to face and you would be expected to work with British Sign Language and /or spoken Interpreters.

About our location:
The National Deaf CAMHS, East of England Is based in Bottisham Village, Cambridge. Bottisham is a pleasant semi-rural residential location just outside of Cambridge city centre with easy access to A14, M11. Access to a car would be desirable.The post holder will be able to work using the Hybrid/Agile working approach and will therefore only be required to attend the unit for specific assessments.
Under appropriate supervision from qualified clinical psychologist/s in the Specialist Services Clinical
• To undertake protocol based psychological assessments of clients applying psychological, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
• To assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s problems.
• To work with other staff to assess outpatients, develop individualised intervention / treatment plans and review their care.
• To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care takes place.
• To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
Teaching, Training and Supervision
• To receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional practice guidelines.
• To develop skills and competencies that assist in the delivery of current duties
• To contribute to the training and support of other staff in psychological care.
Management, Recruitment and Service Development
• To assist in the design and implementation of service development projects within the service as required.
• To attend meetings in which service developments are planned and discussed.
Research and Service Evaluation
• To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
• To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
• To undertake searches of evidence-based literature and research to assist qualified clinical psychologists in evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
Communication
• To have achieved at least British Sign Language (BSL) level 1 and to continue developing sign language skills.
• To adhere to the Deaf Services policy that signing will be always used when there is a Deaf person nearby whether or not the person is involved in the conversation.
• To continue to develop British Sign Language and Deaf awareness skills to achieve relevant standards according to service needs.
Training and Development
• To undertake mandatory and statutory training as required by Trust policy.
• To contribute and commit to undertaking an annual Development Review/appraisal.
• To undertake personal development as identified in the Personal Development Plan (PDP).
Other
• To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training and development programmes, in consultation with the postholder’s professional and team/operational manager(s).
• To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping and report writing in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society and Trust policies and procedures.
• To prepare test materials and visual aids as required.
• To undertake specific administrative duties as required.
• To perform other duties of a similar kind appropriate to the grade, which may be required from time to time by the Team Psychologist and/or team manager.
