Key Responsibilities:
1. This 12 Month FTC Senior Bioinformatician will provide focused bioinformatics expertise across Research projects.
2. Propose bioinformatic solutions and implement tools and workflows to enable the advancement of the Company pipeline and processes.
3. Possess a deep understanding of bioinformatic techniques and apply knowledge to complex problems.
4. Demonstrate entrepreneurship in identifying new data sources and analytical solutions.
5. Develop apps and other tools which will provide scientists with the ability to easily view and integrate data from multiple sources.
6. Evaluate solutions and exercise judgement to improve data management and workflow/tool development.
7. Develop understanding of the scientific context and underlying strategy across a diverse range of Research projects across autoimmune, infectious diseases and oncology. Be proactive in contributing on a scientific level.
8. Demonstrate project leadership qualities through proactive team participation and collaboration with other senior representatives within Research groups.
9. Maintain and increase technical knowledge in relevant fields through self-study, observation, attending relevant conferences and training courses.
10. Maintain accurate records of all work by completing documentation on time, following Company procedures.
11. Operate in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety policies.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential:
1. Will be proficient in R/BioConductor, Linux OS and shell scripting bash. Proven programming ability.
2. Understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, immunology or related discipline.
3. Significant experience of independent research in academic or industrial setting, or transferable skills gained from professional experience.
4. Proposed and driven changes in working practices that have improved efficiency, supported teams through adoption and change.
5. Presented detailed scientific findings and papers to internal and external audiences.
6. Experience of building NGS pipelines.
7. Contributed towards the development of database systems, using SQL or similar.
Desirable:
1. Familiarity with machine learning and AI applications in bioinformatics.
2. Previously worked or studied in the infectious disease field.
3. Demonstrated experience in bioinformatics related to TCR and/or antibody research.
4. Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and databases for immune receptor analysis (e.g. IMGT, VDJtools).
5. Knowledge of analysing single cell RNAseq data.
6. Experience with cloud computing and HPC environments.
7. Mentored and coached less experienced colleagues in scientific practices and theory.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Normally requires a PhD in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience; may include post-doctoral experience.
2. MSc degree with extensive role specific equivalent research or industrial experience.
