We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our Endoscopy Team!
We are looking for a hardworking qualified nurse to work as part of a specialist and devoted team within Endoscopy and are passionate about giving patients the best possible care.
The Endoscopy department within Southmead Hospital is a fast paced and varied environment, full of passionate and highly skilled nurses.
The department has achieved JAG accreditation and runs a busy service from 4 dedicated procedure rooms. We undertake over 11,000 endoscopies each year and have an expanding service which includes growth in exciting areas of capsule endoscopy, enteroscopy, bowel screening, GI endoscopy, respiratory, trans-nasal endoscopy and GI Pre-assessment clinics.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
* Work as a member of the Endoscopy Team and is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
* Care for patients undergoing all types of Endoscopy procedures both routine and emergency for inpatients and outpatients.
* Take responsibility for the particular area allocated to them on the work plan rota – admission, care of the patient during procedure, assisting the Endoscopist, recovery and discharge.
* Ensure Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and be familiar with advisory guidelines, as laid down by the BSG and NMC.
* Supervise junior staff and teach qualified staff, student nurses, and healthcare support workers.
* Commit to the on-call gastric bleed rota.
Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current live NMC registration.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Completion of eLearning for Health Endo 1.
Work Experience
* Completion of training for additional clinical skills required in the ward/department.
* At least 12 months of recent, post qualification experience in either an acute hospital or outpatient setting.
* Experience of working as a Registered Nurse in the NHS.
* Experience of working within an Endoscopy environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
* General knowledge of GI diseases, endoscopic and related interventions.
* Advanced communication skills, verbal & written, to include report writing and record keeping.
* Basic computer / IT skills and expectation to develop these in line with the needs of the service.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Sound knowledge of the guidelines set out in the NMC code of professional conduct and current Nursing Issues.
