About the role:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) to join a local primary school based in the heart of Cambridge. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils experiencing temporary or longer-term emotional challenges, providing them with the tools and support they need to manage their emotions and build resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver individual and small group support sessions focusing on emotional literacy.
2. Utilise a variety of engaging activities such as games, role-play, and arts and crafts to support children’s emotional development.
3. Create and maintain a safe, nurturing environment.
4. Address a range of emotional needs including recognising emotions, self-esteem, social skills, friendship skills, anger management, and coping with loss and bereavement.
5. Collaborate with class teachers, senior leaders, and the SENCo to identify and prioritize children for ELSA support.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Experience working with children in an educational setting.
2. Strong understanding of emotional literacy and its importance in child development.
3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
5. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children.
