The Opportunity
The Site Pre-Construction Lead will lead the pre-construction team and ensure the successful planning and initiation of the UK’s next major nuclear new build project.
You'll work closely with design teams to review and refine project plans and specifications, ensuring feasibility and compliance with all relevant standards. Serving as the primary point of contact for clients and key stakeholders, facilitate clear and effective communication, addressing client needs and concerns promptly. Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers is essential
Ensuring safety is the overriding priority for any activity performed by the Pre-construction team(s) and recognize the importance of a strong Nuclear Safety as well as Industrial Safety.
The role
As the Pre-Construction Lead, your role will involve directing and managing a multidisciplinary pre-construction team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment. Responsibilities will include developing comprehensive project strategies, budgets, and schedules, and overseeing the preparation and review of project estimates to ensure accuracy in cost projections.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Develop and implement a project management and construction support strategy to ensure the delivery of the nuclear new build project to safety, quality, time and cost targets.
Ensure that work scopes for each programme of work are defined and interfaces to other programmes clearly understood and managed.
Develop and lead a high performing team, capable of delivering the work scope, with clear roles and responsibilities and delivery accountabilities.
Drive the delivery of the programme activities to ensure they are delivered safely on time, to budget, meeting business & technical requirements.
Anticipate, manage and resolve issues within the programme. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised working closely with other senior colleagues.
Monitor and adjust the execution plan where issues arise to ensure the overall programme schedule is met.
Foster and promote collaboration between Pre-Constructions team(s), MDT team members and supply chain partners to achieve ‘best for project outcomes.
Ensure schedules are developed and maintained for the programme and that schedules are consistent with overall Project schedules.
Ensure that programme contractual requirements are fulfilled and work with the Head of Commercial for Site Delivery to maintain the highest standards of commercial and contractual rigour.
Liaise with regulators and other external stakeholders to ensure they fully understand the programme and any changes made to it and to manage any regulatory interventions.
Maintain an overview of the quality of work delivered and instigate remedial action where required.
Provide an interface between the Engineering function and the Delivery organisation to ensure the plant is built as designed.
Implementing a construction readiness review process on work scope packages based on complexity. You will have the following qualifications & experience
Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Equivalent in Construction Management or related subject or a demonstrable level of experience based on years of experience and project assignments.
Extensive working knowledge in the delivery of large complex construction projects.
Management of strategic planning developing construction sequencing and recovery plans.
In-depth knowledge and experience of programme progress and forecast position and planning.
Good working knowledge of commercial principles affecting construction matters.
Awareness of project change control and risk management processes.
Ability to build and manage a diverse and high performing team.
Ability to work collaboratively and in an integrated team environment.
Excellent organisational and communication skills.

Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
