ScotRail is looking for skilled engineers to join our team and play a crucial role in shaping the future of Scottish rail travel. Our four Maintenance Depots and In-Service Fleet Engineering (ISFE) team, strategically located across Scotland, are responsible for maintaining a diverse fleet of both diesel & electric trains to ensure they remain fully operational and provide a reliable service for our customers. As an Engineer at ScotRail, you'll play a vital role in:
1. Ensuring Safe and Reliable Operations: Play a key role in maintaining the safety and reliability of our fleet by conducting routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
2. Undertaking Planned and Preventative Maintenance: Proactively address potential issues through mileage-based servicing, inspections, and targeted preventative measures.
3. Efficient Fault Finding and Repair: Utilise diagnostic tools and technical expertise to identify and rectify faults on a diverse range of rolling stock (trains), minimising downtime to ensure that we provide our customer with a reliable, safe and defect free train.
4. Maintaining Accurate Documentation: Update maintenance documentation to comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
What You Bring…
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate you have:
* Completed a recognised Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 or above in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related vocational field where the skills, knowledge, and experience are directly transferable to the requirements of this role. (Please note - the vocational qualification associated with the Modern Apprenticeship must be at SVQ/NVQ Level 3.)
* Experience of working in a fast-paced production or operational engineering environment.
* Understanding of interpreting electrical and/or mechanical diagrams.
* Understanding of fundamental electrical and/or mechanical principles.
* Experience of using a variety of electrical and/or mechanical testing equipment.
* Experienced in updating maintenance documentation including technical report writing.
* The ability to read and interpret procedures and utilise logical fault-finding techniques.
You must hold a full, valid UK driving licence and be willing to travel to various locations throughout Scotland, as required by the role. Please note this position operates on a 7-day rotating shift basis and could include dayshift, backshift, nightshift and weekend working. Hours of work: 35-hour week. Reference Salary: £53,039 per annum on completion of training, training salary £47,339 per annum.

Selection process
Selected candidates will be invited to a competency-based interview. If successful, the next stage will be a medical examination, drug & alcohol screening. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six-month probation period.
