Toshiba Europe Limited has pioneered the development of quantum communication systems over the past decade, setting new standards for cryptography and data security. We are currently seeking a Senior Electronic Design Engineer to drive the development of next generation secure communication products at Toshiba’s Quantum Technology Centre in Cambridge, UK.
In this role, you will lead the development of the electronic circuitry at the heart of our quantum products. You should be able to demonstrate past success in designing and delivering high-speed broadband analogue and digital circuitry for leading edge products.
You will join a dynamic organisation at the forefront of the quantum industry, with the opportunity to play a major role in the development of quantum networking technology.
Responsibilities:
* Requirement analysis for new broadband analogue and digital circuits used in high-speed communication systems
* Lead the electronic system designs for new products, including the creation and reviewing of schematic designs and PCB layouts
* Liaising with PCB fabrication and assembly houses during initial manufacture
* Board bring-up, debug, and integration testing in collaboration with embedded software engineers
* Development of appropriate test hardware and procedures for development and production
* Create high quality documentation (requirements capture, design specifications, tests plans, reports etc.)
* Management of the electronic systems designs portfolio, ensuring all documentation is maintained, updated and version controlled.
* Support continuous improvement on existing products
* Mentoring junior engineers
Essential:
* Degree level qualification in Electronic Engineering or equivalent subject
* Proven success in high-speed analogue circuit design
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Strong multi-tasking skills
* Familiarity with product development practices from concept through to volume manufacture and maintenance.
* Demonstrable experience of leading a technical team in Electronic Engineering design work.
* Excellent project planning skills, including the ability to schedule and prioritise tasks, as well as forecast and manage project budgets.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Ability to write and present comprehensive technical design documentation for internal and external use.
* Liaising with other teams in the business to ensure the electronics systems designs are aligned to both technical and commercial requirements.
Desirable:
* Software engineering experience in C/C++ and/or Linux
* Familiarity with the Altium Designer CAD tool
* Proven success in circuit design with FPGA
* Experience with hardware description languages such as Verilog and/or VHDL
* Engineering experience in the communications industry with design responsibilities
