McLaughlin & Harvey is one of the leading Building and Civil Engineering Contractors operating throughout the UK and Ireland. We are seeking to recruit an experienced Head of Building Services to work as part of our Senior Leadership Team. Responsibilities The Head of Building Services will be responsible for leading all aspects of MEP, from precontract inception through to final commissioning and handover of all our contracts. The Head of Building Services will dictate, monitor and control all aspects of the MEP process and engage and co-ordinate with all internal and external stakeholders at varying stages throughout the life cycle of the project. In general, the Head of Building Services will carry out the following duties: Develop a policy for the MEP function that is fit for purpose and delivers a clear, consistent and sustainable approach to achieve the optimum outcome. Develop standard forms, reports, management tools and digital systems that support the new policy. Nurture and develop a team of Building Services staff to deliver the policy objectives. Lead the process for recruitment, training and support of Building Services staff. Set clear MEP deliverables at each gateway in the process and ensure all stakeholders are focused and on target to meet the varying requirements to maintain programme. Integrate with the Project Team to ensure procurement, design, delivery and commercial targets are fully coordinated and achieved. Manage and develop value engineering strategies on a contract-by-contract basis to maximise the commercial return of MEP without impacting on quality or compliance within the contract requirements. Develop a strategy for MEP planning and programming on our projects that is fully coordinated with the contract master programme. Liaise with the Operations Directors to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. Provide support to the Aftercare Team on matters relating to MEP. Assist the Commercial Team on matters relating to MEP packages. Provide continuous feedback to the Pre-Construction Team to ensure lessons learnt are captured, understood and incorporated into future tenders. Assist the Pre-Construction, Commercial and Contract Teams in choosing the right supply chain partners and analysing associated tender returns. Carry out tender design risk analysis and ensure potential risks have been addressed in conjunction with the Pre-construction team. Develop framework alliances with MEP subcontractors and consultants and continuously nurture these relationships with a view to improving performance and driving value. Interface with the Digital Construction Director to ensure all synergies between MEP design and digital construction are aligned and optimised. Develop a system of delivering MEP design that fits with the Design and Build Director’s overarching strategy. Develop a positive and fully integrated MEP team culture. Have a positive attitude and be a team player, that demonstrates the flexibility to meet the wide-ranging challenges of this senior role. Experience The role will suit an individual who has experience of working as a Head of Building Services or similar senior leadership role within a contracting environment. This role requires a high calibre individual who understands the fundamentals of MEP but more importantly understands the MEP process and its intrinsic correlation with the overall construction project. Essential Criteria Degree or equivalent qualification It is desirable but not essential to have experience of leading a Building Services Department within a main contracting environment It is desirable but not essential to demonstrate a track record of delivering large MEP packages. Good knowledge of construction contracts particularly the JCT & NEC Forms.
