About the role: Cuvva is looking to hire a Senior Motor Underwriter with a background in product development to support the evolution of our underwriting strategy as we diversify and expand into new products. In this role, you'll bring underwriting expertise to drive forward the development of new initiatives. You'll be responsible for working on new ideas, creating new products & supporting the delivery of strategic projects. Working closely with our underwriting capacity providers & internal product teams, you’ll play a critical role in optimising processes for both new and existing products. It's important that your underwriting approach aligns with our growth ambitions, therefore you’ll need to have a good commercial awareness while maintaining a strong underwriting lens. You’ll join a multi-disciplined team, responsible for Underwriting, Claims and Fraud. Your experience in underwriting niche products and making informed decisions with limited data will be invaluable as we explore new opportunities. This is an exciting chance to collaborate, innovate, and contribute to Cuvva’s evolving product portfolio. On a day-to-day basis you’ll: Lead the development of new initiatives, including supporting the strategy for our products, by working closely with the Product Teams & wider business. Lean on your market knowledge and product expertise to come up with policy wordings, underwriting rules & make recommendations for the underwriting strategy. Evaluate all opportunities, ensuring technical underwriting and legislative considerations are taken into consideration. Communicate with the management team and make sure everyone is up to date with UW changes and challenges. Ensure innovation, profitability, and growth by aligning activities with the broader business strategy. Liaise with our capacity providers and developers, ensuring that outputs are consistent, customer friendly and comply with all legal and regulatory requirements. Ensure that delegated authorities are adhered to & all agreements/proposals are well documented. Support with technical matters including complex policy voidance and cancellation decisions. Monitor underwriting performance at both overall & at individual product level with a view to recommending any appropriate changes in underwriting strategy, risk appetite and customer acceptance criteria. Provide market and competitor analysis, translating insights into actionable plans. Working closely with Pricing & Data teams to complete a feedback loop which will shape the future criteria for risk acceptance You’ll do great here if you: Qualifications / experience: Have Cert CII / CII Diploma level, or progress towards Extensive experience in personal lines motor underwriting space A background of working with product development, creating new offerings & enhancing existing processes Experience in underwriting niche products and making decisions with limited data available Strong experience in developing underwriting guidelines, writing technical policy wordings & collaborating with pricing teams. Knowledge and understanding of market cycles, claims processes & trends within the industry Skills: Proven track record in collaborating with stakeholders to achieve results. Effective communication skills, including the ability to effectively influence internal and external stakeholders. Able to work effectively under pressure, both independently and in a collaborative team environment. Ability to prioritise and organise workload to meet deadlines. Commercial awareness and a strategic mindset is a must.
