An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, professional Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join the Ophthalmology Outpatient Department. The post holder will be working cross sites at Watford General Hospital and St Alban’s City Hospital.
The applicant must have excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Have management and ophthalmology outpatient experience. Have done the Ophthalmic course.
Be able to demonstrate ophthalmic nursing skills, an understanding of current issues in ophthalmology and a good team player.
Informal visits are welcome.
Provide a high standard of individualised care to patients, acting as a role model.
Supporting the Senior Sister/Charge nurse in driving quality care provision forward.
Be responsible for standards of cleanliness in their own clinical area.
Provide clear clinical leadership to staff, running a smooth POA/UEC clinic, deputising for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in her/his absence.

Demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post in POA and UEC clinics.
Triage UEC patients and able to answer and give clinical advice to telephone queries.
Registration academic study, clinical, leadership and management development.
Work and act as a role model for professional practice and leadership.
Will work closely with the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, Matron, Head of Nursing and Clinicians in embedding the principles of clinical governance and standards for better health in order to maintain/improve and develop high standards of patient care, and thereby ensuring that the patients are treated with privacy, dignity and respect.
Place the patient’s experience at the core of service delivery through implementation and continued monitoring of essence of care standards, patient involvement & experience strategy and patient satisfaction surveys.
Work collaboratively with the PALS and Patient Forums to investigate and resolve patient concerns/ complaints, working with the senior sister/charge nurse in developing action plans and progress development meetings.
Support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in actively implementing initiatives outlined within the Trust’s local nursing and midwifery strategy and where relevant take the lead for designated projects.
To assist the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in ensuring that nursing practice reflects current clinical developments, evidence-based guidance and is based on sound nursing audit and research, identifying opportunities for the promotion and participation in such activities.
Promote and support Nurse Led Discharge within area of responsibility and ensure all staff actively participates in discharging/transferring ‘medically fit’ patients to more appropriate settings.
