This is a unique opportunity to work on transformative, large-scale Capital Delivery Programmes, driving robust cost control processes and delivering insights that influence strategic decision-making at the highest levels. About the Role As a key member of the Programme Controls Team, you will lead the Cost Control workstream, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and insightful reporting. Your responsibilities will span from designing and embedding cost structures to training teams, maintaining alignment with systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll act as a trusted advisor across various layers of the business, tailoring your approach to meet the needs of different stakeholders. Your efforts will directly contribute to enterprise-level forecasting and performance insights, ensuring Southern Water operates with “one version of the truth.” Key Responsibilities Provide leadership on cost control and management, challenging programme and project delivery teams to drive efficiency. Implement and maintain robust cost management systems and processes, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Align Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) with Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) for accurate schedule and cost management. Deliver regular cost analysis, exception reports, and actionable insights to identify trends and recommend corrective actions. Collaborate with internal teams (PMO Leads, Delivery Teams, Finance, and Investment Management) and external stakeholders to produce accurate reporting and support workforce planning. Develop and promote a proactive, positive culture throughout the Capital Delivery Directorate. Support continuous improvement initiatives to eliminate inefficiencies and streamline cost management processes. What You’ll Bring Extensive experience in cost control and management, ideally within large capital programmes or a PMO environment. Strong analytical skills with the ability to deliver clear, impactful reports and insights. Familiarity with cost management systems and PMO functions, including CBS and WBS alignment. Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging stakeholders at all levels and presenting actionable insights. A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and attention to detail. Knowledge of project management principles, with experience in the construction industry or project environments being highly desirable.
