The firm has been evolving over the past few years and as part of this, their approach to Dispute Resolution is changing. Now seeking to move from a general litigation practice to a specialist team model, the firm is seeking to define and expand the distinct litigation practice areas, including Property Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation and Inheritance Disputes. As part of this growth and in order to meet with increasing client demand, the firm is seeking to recruit a Property Litigation (Real Estate Disputes) Solicitor or Associate, approximately 2-5 PQE, to join their busy and enthusiastic team. With the firm’s strong regional presence, you could be based from their Torquay, Exeter or Plymouth offices with some hybrid working.
About the role
Handling a varied, good quality caseload of property disputes work, you can expect to focus on:
* Landlord & Tenant matters
* Enforcement of commercial leases
* Authorised Guarantee Agreements (AGAs)
* Boundary disputes, breaches of contract, property title disputes
* Easements, rights of way disputes and disputes between co-owners or neighbours
* Challenges to property development or planning permissions
* Providing broader support to commercial property purchases and disposals
Collaboration with other teams in order to provide seamless and exemplary client service is central to this firm’s culture, with a focus on building relationships with the Real Estate and wider Dispute Resolution teams. You’ll be encouraged to engage in business development activities, promoting your own profile with referrer contacts in the region along with that of the firm. Depending upon your preference, you will be based from offices in Plymouth, Exeter or Torquay with hybrid working.
About you
A motivated Property Litigation Solicitor or Associate who is seeking to take the next step in your career, you will have a few years’ UK based post qualified experience, and feel comfortable managing a varied litigation caseload with some supervision. You have gained a good grounding in technical skills and feel increasingly confident handling more complex matters, whilst listening to your clients and providing clear, commercially relevant advice every time. You will be ready to seek support and ask questions when needed, working proactively with experiencned lawyers to continue developing your skills and knowledge over time. If you enjoy learning new aspects of litigation practice, this role will provide the opportunity for exposure to some broader property, projects and construction related disputes work.
You will be positive and proactive in encouraging and developing less experienced colleagues, and you may have gained some prior experience of supporting team members, allocating work and providing quality supervision in your current or previous role. You will have a positive approach to working collaboratively with other fee earner teams and support colleagues to promote cross-referrals and delivery of exemplary client care. Your ability to work closely with the Real Estate team to support their clients with any contentious matters will be especially important.
An interest and enthusiasm for business development will be important in this role in order to develop and grow the practice, gaining new client instructions and referrals. You will be keen to engage and share your ideas in order to generate new business opportunities for your team and the wider firm, promoting your profile and building up referrer networks.
You consider yourself to be a resilient and collegiate lawyer who enjoys delivering exceptional client service and encourage your team to do the same. You have developed a passion for working with a wide range of clients, providing appropriate, insightful and commercially relevant advice to meet with their specific needs and interests. You focus on keeping up to date with the latest legal developments affecting Commercial Litigation and work proactively to consider potential impact on your clients.
You are readily able to demonstrate your strong analytical and communication skills and work strategically with clients and as part of a team. Being resilient to work under pressure by organising yourself effectively, you will be able to meet deadlines as needed. You will possess proven rapport building skills and you are tenacious, thorough, and attentive to detail, taking pride in the high standards of your work.
